We made the 2 hour journey to see Dr. L (GI) on Tuesday to talk about Buddy's lack of weight gain... and evening tummy pain that started up this past week. Dr. L thought we should try doing a mini-cleanse. 2 caps of Miralax for 3 days, then 1 cap daily after that. If the pain doesn't improve within a week, he will call in Xifaxan to treat Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth. So far no complaints today so hopefully it was just a little back-up. As far as the weight goes - he was 62lbs this time last year and 62lbs today. Dr. would like him to gain a few pounds so we met with the dietician to see what we could add. She suggested almond milk and a variety of nuts (except pistachios). She wants us to challenge Greek yogurt and cheddar cheese, then a variety of fruits (kiwi, pineapple, cantaloupe, and blueberries). It will be a slow process because Buddy only wants to challenge new foods on Fridays in case he gets sick. He doesn't want to miss anymore school. I can't blame him. We go back down the end of December for a weight check and a celiac screening to see if his numbers have gone down...
Hi, I have a 7 year old daughter that was diagnosed with celiac in May of 2011. Despite the fact that we are meticulously careful about gluten and cross-contamination, her counts are still double what they should be and she has had considerable stomach pain. "My stomach hurts no matter what I eat!" is her take on the situation. :( Right before Thanksgiving she voluntarily took herself off all dairy hoping that would help...on Monday she was tested positive for fructmal and sibo. When her gi dr called yesterday to tell us the results she indicated that this was a temporary condition. However, from what I am reading online (all night long), it really doesn't seem like that is the case regarding fructmal. Is it a lifelong condition? My 10 year old son has some slightly different stomach issues and is scheduled to see a gi dr at Mary Bridge but can't get in until the 3rd week of January.
ReplyDeleteSorry to be so long-winded, but I wanted to give you a picture of where we are on this journey. AND to ask if when you are in town for your late December appt. if there is any possibility we could meet up and I can talk to you about our children's health management. My email is witsend3010@gmail.com.
Thanks much for doing this blog. I think I read every post you have written.
Blessings, Cheryl
